CAHR Drives Automotive Leadership, Skills and Innovation

Toronto, Canada. — September 29, 2005 — The Council for Automotive Human Resources (CAHR) today launched its new interactive website, a key initiative to provide important information about Canada's automotive manufacturing sector and its opportunities, and to expand communications with the Council's broad array of stakeholders.

As the Sector Council for automotive manufacturing, CAHR facilitates cooperation and partnership between industry, labour, academia, and government to address human resource requirements at all levels of the sector. CAHR serves the human resource development needs of these groups, with particular emphasis on initiatives to promote leadership, skills and innovation.

CAHR was formally established in 2004 as a result of recommendations from the Canadian Automotive Partnership Council (CAPC), a collaborative effort of business leaders from Canadian auto industry, labour, government and academia, to address the key competitive issues facing the auto industry.

CAHR's role is to develop a human resource strategy and to address the current and future labour market issues for the sector. The Council represents the collective interests and diverse perspectives of its stakeholders and audiences, and is a vital conduit to and from critical decision makers.

Bob Magee, Chairman of CAHR says "The Council's new website is the first of many planned initiatives by CAHR to provide essential information about the auto industry and its importance to Canada, and the exciting opportunities that it holds for Canadians. The site will include industry news, research, and educational and career resources and opportunities, promote the development of leadership, skills and innovation."

CAHR also serves those who work, or would like to pursue a career within the industry. Interested persons are invited to visit www.cahr-crha.ca. "The new CAHR website will provide timely, relevant information regarding the Canadian automotive manufacturing sector, career development, continuous learning, apprenticeship, skills transfer and more," Magee states. The website is funded by the Government of Canada's Sector Council Program.

From its beginnings in 1904, the automotive manufacturing industry has been the engine that drives Canada's economy. According to CAHR's Executive Director, John Mavrak, "the Council's activities help workers and employers by creating solutions that are tailored to the industry's needs, and enhance the global competitiveness of Canadian automotive manufacturing".

Visitors to CAHR's website will learn more about the Council's work and initiatives to position the auto industry as differentiated and competitive through the exemplary attraction, development, retention and management of its workforce.

CAHR's strategic direction and activities are focused on the goal of sustained global competitiveness and profitability of the sector. To learn more about the Council and its services, please visit www.cahr-crha.ca or email CAHR at info@cahr-crha.ca.
